Understanding Ontario Express Entry
Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)
Why Ontario? There are so many reasons why anyone would want to make Ontario home. Ontario has the most highly educated workforce in the OECD, with 68% of adults having post-secondary education. Ontario has a diverse and multicultural community, with more than half the 250,000 people who immigrate to Canada annually choosing Ontario. Ontario has 44 universities and colleges as well as over 400 private career colleges.
Other reasons to consider relocating to Ontario are that the province has the lowest business costs in the G7, competitive corporate tax at 26.5% (combined federal and provincial), universal health care services through the Ontario Health Insurance Plan, R&D tax incentives, and a high quality of life, with Toronto and Ottawa ranking high in the Mercer 2017 Quality of Living Survey Index, top cities in North America, among many other reasons.
So, how do you immigrate to Ontario?
The Ontario government, in realization of the great benefit immigrants can bring to the economy and the society, has put in place different programs to attract immigrants and to filter them to ensure only the best ones immigrate. The most popular of these is the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), formally known as the Opportunities Ontario Provincial Nominee Program (OOPNP). This program relies heavily on the federal Express Entry online immigration system.

How do OINP and Express Entry Work?
The Express Entry system filters the thousands of applicants who seek immigration to Canada each week. Applicants are awarded points in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) with a maximum of 1,200. The CRS considers several factors ranging from age to education and from experience to English/French language proficiency. A provincial nomination has 600 points, which all but guarantees you an Invitation to Apply (ATA) for Canadian permanent residency. A draw is done every few weeks to pick the applicants with the highest score.
You could apply directly to Immigration Ontario, expressing your interest and detailing what you plan to bring on board. If you are fortunate enough to get a provincial nomination, you can then create an online Express Entry profile and upload your PNP Ontario nomination the certificate.
The most popular way of making an application is first by creating an online Express Entry profile and then making an application through the portal, stating interest to live and work in Ontario. Ontario immigration officials will go through your application and they will contact you officially if you qualify to invite you to apply to the program. They will simultaneously give a PNP Ontario nomination the certificate which will automatically be uploaded to the Express Entry system, as will your 600 CRS points.
Who Can Apply?
You could apply under any of these 6 streams:
- General stream
- Corporate stream
- International students stream
- Entrepreneur stream
- French-speaking skilled worker stream
- Human capital priorities
How we help with OINP applications
Each of these categories has unique eligibility criteria. Failure to fulfill even one of the criteria or to provide sufficient proof of eligibility will lead to a low Express Entry score. This is where the Law Office of Matthew Jeffery comes in.
Given that the CRS score determines who will be picked and who will not, we will help optimize the score. We do this by ensuring your online Express Entry profile captures everything.
We will file the pre-screen application, which the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration then reviews. We will handle the permanent residence application to Citizenship and Immigration Canada. We will also guide you on the mandatory background and health checks for you and your dependents and we will assist you to get police clearance certificates.
You are required to have a permit for most of the categories. We will assist you to get the permit or renew it if it has expired.
If your application is being hindered by an immigration inadmissibility case, we will handle the admissibility hearings and assist with rehabilitation where necessary by preparing a report setting out the allegations for Immigration Division of the Immigration and Refugee Board consideration.
If you manage to get permanent residency status through the program, we will assist you with citizenship application once you fulfill time and other requirements. Citizenship allows you to enjoy your full rights as a Canadian. We will also handle citizenship appeals.
Please fill out the Skilled Worker Free Assessment Form on our website and we will assess your qualifications and contact you with further details if you are qualified to make an application for immigration to Canada or one of its provinces.
